Aboriginal Patient Liaison

We advocate for and provide help to Aboriginal families who are visiting the hospital.

The patient advocate provides information and support, including:

  • Support and comfort to patients and families
  • Access to emergency clothing
  • Care packages
  • Information about the First Nations Health Benefits Program
  • Assistance if you have a complaint
  • Connection to Aboriginal & community resources
  • Accompanying a patient to medical appointments while on site at BC Children's or Sunny Hill
  • Liaison with the on-site health care team (nurses, doctors, other health care professionals)
  • Connection to an elder for spiritual and emotional support
